The Snowy River flows across NSW border to the coast at Marlo. The mid section of the Snowy is mountainous and includes the Snowy River Gorge. Significant tributaries of the Snowy River include Buchan, Yalmy, Murrindal, Suggan Buggan, Deddick and Delegate. The Snowy floodplain contains a complex system of drains and levee banks to support agricultural production.

Heritage River Values in the Snowy River are based on canoeing and rafting opportunities, scenic landscapes, Australian Grayling habitat, native fish diversity in the estuary, geological and geomorphological sites of significance, cultural Indigenous heritage sites, terrestrial fauna habitat in the Snowy Valley and outstanding botanical values. The Heritage values in the Buchan River are based on botanical values, scenic landscapes, Australian grayling habitat, the essentially natural conditions. Suggan Buggan River is also listed as a Heritage River for botanical significance, scenic landscapes, Australian grayling habitat, native fish diversity, and the essentially natural conditions.

The Brodribb River flows into the Snowy River, near Marlo. The major tributary for this river is Cabbage Tree Creek and other smaller tributaries include Googerah, Sardine and Martin's Creeks.
