Floodplain Management

The Authority is responsible for the oversight of statutory planning issues on our floodplains, including things like drainage and planning permits for buildings.

The East Gippsland CMA works closely with West Gippsland CMA on matters to do with floodplain management and drainage.

The Victorian Government has re-opened consultation on a Revised Draft Victorian Floodplain Management Strategy.

The revised draft strategy provides the proposed policy framework for managing floodplains and responding to flooding in cities, towns and regional areas.

It includes recommendations for improving floodplain management identified during the 2010, 2011 and 2012 floods, the review into the effectiveness of flood warning and response systems, and the inquiry into flood mitigation infrastructure. It also incorporates feedback received during the 2014 consultation.

Submissions close at 5pm, 8 August 2015.
